After a partly rainy weekend with enthusiastic athletes and many personal best performances, the 10th edition of the Dutch Double Decathlon has finished. The results are online now, see the results section.

Many athletes who participated in the World Championships will also be present in Delft, which is only four weeks after the event in Lisse. These athletes (Richard Holstege, Lukas van der Storm, Joey Blangé, Lee Manvell, Marc Lommert, Roland van den Tillaar, Robert Lehner, Wim Threels) will face the hard task to complete two ultra multievents within one month. However, history has proved that in many occasions the second ultra multievent in a year goes better than the first. Subscription is still open, so anyone who is interested in doing this ultimate athletic challenge (or a second challenge!), please send an email to info@20kamp.nl.

 

 

World championships 2011 in Lisse

Last weekend the world championships ultra multievents were held in Lisse. With almost 100 participants this was an unique experience. Thanks to the great number of volunteers of the organizing club De Spartaan and the positive spirit of all the athletes, this was an unforgettable event. Congratulations to all the new world champions and all finishers.

Dutch Double Decathlon 2011: 17+18 September

The date for the Dutch Double Decathlon 2011 is known: 17+18 September 2011 in Delft.

Remember that this competition is the 2nd competition in the Netherlands in 2011, next to the world championships in Lisse in August (www.doubledecathlon.com)

New World Record!

During the World Championships Ultra Multievents in Lynchberg (USA) decathlete Joe Detmer has broken the world record icosathlon. The 27 year old set the new standard to 14574 points, an improvement of 389 points over Kip Janvrin’s old world record. It is noteworthy that Detmer, with a personal best decathlon of 8090 points this year, scored an unbelievable 7741 point in the decathlon events during the icosathlon.

In points the all-time top three compares as follows:

The old world record, set in 2002 by Olympic athlete Kip Janvrin during the World Championships in Turku, has been beaten from the first event. In the following graph you can see a comparison of Detmer’s new record compared to Janvrin’s scores from 2002.

We see that in the events 100m, long jump, 200m hurdles, high jump, 1500m, triple jump and 10000m Detmer increased his lead significantly, while shot put and javelin were clearly in favor of Janvrin. In all the other disciplines the difference is very minor. The jumping events are scoring high for Detmer (+258 points) while the throwing events are better for Janvrin (-221 points). On the other events the advantage is slightly for Detmer (hurdles +129 points, sprint +115 points, long distances +108 points).
