It is only one week to go before the World Championships Ultra Multievents 2009 start in Delft. Some final information:
Official opening
On Friday evening the official opening of the competition will be held in the historical town hall in the city of Delft. The program starts at 17.00 at the town hall of the city of Delft, and will be as follows:
17.00 City hall Delft, guided walking tour through historical center of Delft
18.00 End of walking tour, back in city hall
18.15 Word of welcome by the sports representative of the city of Delft
18.30 Competition briefing by the referee
19.00 Buffet (During buffet collecting of start numbers and paying of entry fee)
20.30 End of evening program
The town hall is located at Markt 78, opposite of the new church. It is at walking distance of the train station. Attached you find a map which could help orientating. See also http://www.delft.nl/webEN/content.jsp?objectid=33520.
Each athlete is allowed to bring one coach or supporter to the opening. If you would like to bring more guests this is no problem, but please let us know before next Wednesday.
At the competition briefing the referee will explain the most important details and you can ask your questions. You can collect your starting number and T-shirt during the buffet, please note you should pay your entry fee here as well.
If you are not able to join the opening ceremony, please let us know in advance so we can save your starting number for Saturday morning. Otherwise we can contact athletes from the waiting list.
Sleeping on the track
Some of you have asked is it is possible to camp on the track. It is possible to set up your tent at the track for the Friday, Saturday and Sunday night. On Friday there will be someone on the track in case you would like to set up your tent or drop your materials or poles.
Dinner
At both Saturday and Sunday there is a simple meal included for the athletes after the competition. Coaches and supporters can join as well; they can buy a coupon during the day. To make an estimation of the amount of food required, please let us know before next Wednesday how many of your coaches or supporters would like to join the meal.
All the best with the final preparations, have a good trip to Delft and see you next Friday!
Cédric Bouele, one of the competitors in the open category, has updated the top 100 all-time lists of the double decathlon for men and double heptathlon for women. These lists contain all the ultra multievents ever held in the world, ans are created per event.
> Top-100 – Men Double decathlon
> Top-100 – Women Double heptathlon
Also available are the all-time lists especially for the Dutch Double Decathlon, which is organised annually since 2002 in Delft and once in Leiden. These lists can be found here:
> Best scores total
> Best performances per event
This must be a good inspiration for the upcoming competition!
Update 1: we are looking into the requests and proposals regarding the time table
Update 2: high jump heights are adjusted and go up with 5cm for all groups
The time table is official by now and can be found in the “Time Schedule” section.
There will be three groups for men and one for women. The third male group has a slightly adjusted order of events due to the large amount of participants and the availability of the pole vault installation and the throwing field.
Some points of attention:
At May 12, exactly four months before the start of the competition, the lottery for determining the entries took place. The submitted athletes can be found on the Competitors page. It also shows the order of the waiting list for Open, Masters and Female categories. In case of cancellations the highest person on the waiting will fill the open place.
We are truly sorry for all the enthousiastic athletes who are not selected by the lottery. Keep in mind that there will always be cancellations so there will be chances to participate still.
For all participants we have arranged a special rate at the brand new China Hotel Holland, located at only 400 meters from the athletics track of AV’40. For the price of 30 euro (in case of two persons per room) or 60 euro (in case of one person per room) per person per night you sleep at walking distance of the event. You can make a reservation for as many nights as you prefer around the weekend of the event. Luxurious breakfast is included.
For info about the hotel, please visit www.chinahotelholland.com.
To make a reservation, send an email to info@chinahotelholland.com or call +31 (0)15 219 23 99. Clearly mention that you would like to use the special arrangement “Dutch Double Decathlon”. This offer is valid until at least June 15.
Because of the high number of entries so far, the organisation and the competition referee have decided to apply the following maximum number of participants:
The selection is done at 12 May 2009, exactly four months before the competition starts. The rules for selection are described on the Competitors page.
We are overwhelmed by the number of enthusiastic reactions from the beginning of 2009. As you can see on the ‘Competitors’ page the number of entries has reached the 24 for both the Open and Masters categories. Only by mid February we will decide on the details of the competition en therefore know only by that moment what the maximum number of participants will be. Because we are not sure whether this number will be more than 24 for both categories we will put the new entries from now on a waiting list, until we know more.
The female athletes group is growing now as well, don’t hesitate to subscribe!
